The psychological torture that the man inflicts on his wife and the physical punishment she then visits upon him and herself are unbearable, disgusting and downright scary. After all is said and done, no amount of evil extraterrestrials, monsters, mutated beasts, deranged masked killers or vengeful ghosts can be as horrifying as what we human beings do to each other. That's why psychological horror movies are always the most likely to actually scare you.
