This tale of high Buddhism and low sexual indiscretion is the first film to be shot in the Himalayan mountains of Ladakh, a barren, isolated region of India populated solely by farmers, monks and the odd goat. Samsara tells the story of a young lama who has to face one of the greatest causes of troubles in the world: sexual awakening. After being plagued by evil wet dreams and caught masturbating, he decided to leave the monastery and go live with a beautiful chick (Christy Chung). His reason: even the Buddha has experienced worldly pleasures before renouncing them. Therefore, in order to renounce worldly pleasures, one has to try them first, right? Sounds pretty reasonable to me. But, really, we all know he just wants to fuck Christy Chung. And who could blame the guy?
However, being young and inexperienced in the ways of the world, he isn't just content to have great sex, he has to go and marry the chick. Bad mistake, monk, baaaad mistake.

Through Tashi’s eyes and heart, we journey from the peaceful but monotonous routine of monastic life to euphoric sexual pleasures and material possessions. These are staggeringly beautiful locations with icing-sugar topped mountains, barren desert and tranquil waters, while a rich and varied score includes ethereal chanting, tinkling bells, celestial sounds and resounding orchestrations from the Bulgarian Symphony. The pace is leisurely, allowing us to understand Tashi’s conflict – from the confines of celibacy and strict mental disciplines to the ecstasy-filled sensual moments shared between man and woman (like the sexually adventurous scene involving a sari hung on a rafter and some dextrous action hanging from it) and survival of the fittest in a dog-eat-dog world.
