There exist many versions for Emmanuelle 5, I only found one copy and I don't even know which version it is. My guess is this is one of the cut editions because many nude/sex scenes in the film give the impression they have been heavily edited.
That's too bad because it's directed by Walerian Borowczyk, the man responsible for so many great Erotica (The Beast, The Margin, Immoral Tales, Behind Convent Walls, etc).

Still, cut though it undoubtedly was, there is still some good scenes remain in this edition, such as a sex scene where full-figured Monique Gabrielle's delightful bosom is fully exhibited for a long time.

I hope to get my hands on an Unrated Director's Cut dvd edition one day soon.

Controversial director Walerian Borowczyk ("Immoral Tales", "La Bete") delivers an erotically-charged drama starring "Emmanuelle's" Sylvia Kristel as a Parisian prostitute who partakes in a torrid affair with client Joe Dallesandro after his wife commits suicide.

The film is beautifully photographed, full of the director's obtuse trademark framing, and, something rather unusual for Borowczyk, features a remarkable period soundtrack, from the first Kristel/Dallesandro sex scene played out to 10CC's I'm Not in Love to the stunning blowjob sequence set to Pink Floyd, and an incredible climax that employs Elton John's Funeral For a Friend. While La Marge is distinctively a Borowczyk film in many respects, it also possesses a sombreness and maturity that was rare for the director, for despite the occasional surreal moment (a dwarf watching television, a hotel maid examining her breasts in the mirror, a deranged old woman watching sex through a keyhole), it is primarily a straightforward examination of two doomed characters unable to escape the prisons of their existence. Borowczyk's adult update of the Beauty and the Beast legend has acquired a hefty reputation as an explicit, titillating exploration of sexuality and desire.

Wrapped in Bernard Daillencourt's suitably soft-focus photography, Borowczyk's film is at turns perverse, laughable, and compelling. The performances are uniformly awful and time has not been too kind to the ragged creature effects, in essence, a man in a rather ragged gorilla suit. At times the film is also undeniably offensive, pandering to male fantasy (the point of view shots of women being stalked in various stages of undress is especially distressing) as is the pseudo-rape fantasies the film attributes to its female characters. Further, the black characters are base caricatures given lingering associations with bestial, crazed sexual appetites.

Yet for all its many faults - and to be fair time has not been particularly kind to the film with its flashes of almost Benny Hillesque sauciness - the film does exert a bizarre fascination and contain moments of genuine eroticism. A distinctly surreal, unsettling viewing experience and certainly unlike anything else to currently be found in cinemas.
